Well I found that out quickly, it means your hard drive is filled to the brim with your files that you don't have any virtual memory. I had less than a GB of free space on my hard drive, ya wow so I spent a lot of time doing some cleanup and I wanted to list a strategy for people that are in or might end up in my situation.
1 Be aware of of the way you work and back up.
The way I work has flaws and positives. I do a lot of "save as" to create different versions of my project files. The good thing about these is you have a slightly older version as a plan B if your file becomes corrupt, and a reference to go back to if you accidently merged too many layer to gather or something like that. The negative it uses a lot of space"
Back up my USB keys by simply dragging a file to who knows where this creates even over versions of the same project on my hard drive although even more unorganized.
What I'm going to do? put the current project folders on my desktop to drag and back up do and not the stored area where is sub folder under sub folder, I'll place it there when the project is finished.
2 Be aware of Duplicates!!!
This kind of goes back to point #1 though you might subconsciously make duplicates when you where your rearranging your stuff or who knows what. Search the title of you files it might be found in 4 different locations.
3 DOWN WITH iPhoto!!!!!
When searching for duplicates you might have found most of them hiding id a subfolders of your iPhoto library called Roll? Yes iPhoto may look really we organized and amazing when your using the program though in the inside it's ugly. The albums you created are not a physical folder on your hard drive. iPhoto arranges the file you put into it's library by creating a new folder every time you drag a bush or individual photos into it's library. So if you drag in the smae file again you get more duplicates eben if you think it's replacing it, it's not.
And it gets uglier. iPhoto is great for making quick adjustments though the bad thing is it makes a duplicate of the original file and have a version of the altered file. Now some people like this approach though the files are still unorganized in roll folders so good luck sorting out your originals are altered files. I just want to save over my overexposed photos thank you very much.
Now you may ask can iPhoto get worse well Yes It Can! If you thought right clicking the highlighted photo(s) will truly move it the the trash, your WRONG!!!! iPhoto has it's own retarded stealthy trash can below your million of albums. In there you will see you a party of duplicates and blurry photos you thought you threw out. The good thing is that when you take out that trash it's really cleared from your hard drive it's like a second trash can, weird.
So the solution to the problem is to create real folders and organize it your self, and drag the photos from iPhoto in there, and from now on please use Adobe bridge to transfer your photos not iPhoto so you can really know where your photos are going. Bridge is more like the finder, when you create a folder in bridge you create a real folder on your hard drive, though just like finder you can't do simple adjustments like you can in iPhoto well at least it doesn't clutter your hard drive with duplicate.
4 iTunes
iTunes is not a guilty as iPhoto but be aware it make a duplicate of the music and videos you dragged into it's library so search for duplicates in your finder.
Podcasts
If your a podcast fan and you didn't set iTunes to automatically delete old pod casts they will build up, so if it come down you might consider parting with episodes 1 to 150 when your on episode 200.
5 About the OS
If you are a XP to OSX convert like me you might remember the days I really mean days of defragmentation, well those days are over. UNIX systems rearrange files on the files on the hard drive when your computer is idling so there are no pockets of randomly placed areas of fee space. It's already done that work for you. Though the OS has a bit of a dark side. have you noticed those weird files called .trashes and file like that on your USB key when you popped it on a Windows computer? Well don't be too alarmed, though OSX creates a tiny file alongside every file you created on your mac, now why? Because it makes search faster and easier for your mac. You can delete them on your PC though your mac will recreate them when you pop the USB key back on your mac. This is nothing though what you should be aware is that if you just dragged the files into your trash can off from your USB key they are not transfered on to your Hard drive they still resign on your USB key so empty the trash before you yank out that USB key.
That all for now, and I wish you a less tedious Hard drive spring cleaning.

Well, I rose from the grave--oh man, I shouldn't even be saying that on my b-day, bad omen stuff. But whatever, I did thought of it, it would've been said in my head regardless. "Ill Design"? Yeah, it's a course that'll make you mentally ill if you're not prepared for it, or enjoying the projects or simply have too much other outside school projects to deal with.
